HIV is a virus that attacks a man’s immune system, causing AIDS if left untreated. Although the disease has been known for decades, many men still do not know what symptoms of HIV can occur.
The first symptom that can appear is fever. This is a persistent and unexplained fever that lasts for at least two weeks. The fever is accompanied by night sweats and sudden weight loss, without any change in diet or physical activity.
Another common symptom is diarrhoea. This is an acute diarrhoea that lasts at least a week, sometimes accompanied by abdominal pain and vomiting. Diarrhoea is often a sign of intestinal disease, but when it persists it can be a sign of HIV infection.
Sore throat is another symptom that may appear in infected men. It is a persistent sore throat that may last for up to two weeks. This symptom is often associated with pharyngitis and tonsillitis.
The appearance of skin rash may indicate HIV infection. The skin rash may manifest as small red spots or a diffuse rash. Although this symptom may be caused by other diseases, its sudden appearance may indicate a possible HIV infection.
Finally, inflammation of the lymph nodes is a symptom that should not be underestimated. Inflammation of the lymph nodes can occur anywhere on the body, but especially in the neck, armpits or groin. Inflammation of the lymph nodes is usually accompanied by a general feeling of tiredness.
In general, it is important to pay attention to any symptoms that last more than two weeks and do not go away despite treatment.
HIV can be counteracted with antiretroviral treatment, but it is important to detect the presence of the virus as early as possible in order to be able to intervene promptly. If symptoms of HIV infection are suspected, it is important to undergo a test to diagnose the disease.
